12 Tips to Keep Energized and Motivated While Working from Home in 2024

Now it has been months into the pandemic and we have been working from home since the start of it. We all had entered this work-from-home phase with a lot of preconceived notions. Maybe this was a very normal or accepted fact for the IT sector but this was a completely novel concept for the Engineering Consultancy sector.

We all thought that it was not possible to work from home. Managers thought that efficiency would be at the lowest. But now months into this we feel that it has been good to work from home with a lot of time being saved for various reasons.

An office gives you a regimented schedule. Co-workers give you social interaction. A physically present boss gives you accountability. But post-pandemic many industries who had never thought before would live with this new normal of work-from-home concept saving on the infrastructure and many other things.

One thing we all need to understand is that though we have been working from home for quite a time many of us are facing mental distress caused due to lack of boundaries and isolation. But this mental distress can be overcome if we get some motivation and energy.

We have come up with some of the 12 tips to keep energized and motivated while working from home.

1. Routine

By working from home, we have been in front of the screens for longer hours. We have stopped having any specific routines.

Somewhere the boundaries between workplace and home have been blurred to a large extent. For that, we should start with a routine or follow the same time as we would do if we had gone to the office.

Keep your productivity or efficiency high by following the same routines. It starts right from waking up at the same time, working out, having breakfast and all other routine activities. Just follow the same routine except for travelling to the office sit in your office at home.

Take regular breaks, and have your meals on time. Maybe if this extends longer then you can even plan vacation days.

2. Work Place

Select the one corner of your home where you would like to set up your workplace. Keep that place only for your work just like your cubicle or cabin in the office.

This way you can detach from your workplace even when you are working from home. Maybe you can even decorate your workstation the same way you would have done in your office.

3. Work Boundaries

It has been observed that the work boundaries have become blurred since work from home has started. In the early days, this was compulsive once you left the office and came to a comfortable living space and your people.

But now it is difficult to maintain that boundary. Try and create such boundaries for yourself and convey them to your employer and family or people with whom you live. Strictly follow the boundaries to maintain the balance.

4. Isolate From Social Media

During office hours, whether we agree or not, we all take a sneak peek on Facebook or check private emails or some other social media platforms. That is a sneak peek with your boss around and your co-workers. But during work from home, it can be tough to disconnect.

So, keep away from the social media platforms during your office hours which would also increase your productivity.

5. Virtual Office Space

With work from home, we all have been working in our own space in our attires. Maybe we can spend some time with our co-workers when you can keep your cameras on while working.

This would give a real-time feel of working in an office. Maybe you can have a virtual coffee break to give you the feel.

6. Dress Up

Since the day Work from Home started some clothes from our closet have not seen the sun or felt the air. But dress up for the home office just the way you would do at other times. Don’t stay up in your pyjamas without being cleaned up.

7. Less Video Conferencing Time

With away from the workspace you may end up more on video conferencing time. Let this not happen to you. Use video time only when it is required.

8. Set Goals

Daily before you start your work make a to-do list with all required activities you need to complete in the day Accordingly give time for your meetings and other unwanted office activities.

With this, you can move away from your workplace without any guilt and enjoy the rest of the day with a focus on the next day.

9. Know When to Stop

Don’t work late into the night. Set defined times when you’re going to work, and then when it passes, stop. You can have a bit of leeway here, but make sure that you don’t end up letting work run your life.

10. Break

With the routine work from home, we all end up working without any breaks which would not be the case in an office environment. Make sure that after a taxing mental session, you take a break and refresh. Maybe you can do some house chores which would give you a sense of satisfaction.

11. Forgiving Self

We all expect everyone to do everything perfectly except for ourselves. But keep forgiving yourself for that. Don’t get overstressed because of it. Finally, it keeps your mental health good to improves your focus and productivity.

12. Built-in Rewards

Working from home in routines for longer times can take away your energy and enthusiasm. But we need to keep factors for us to be motivating throughout.

Maybe you can treat yourself to some good food go for a walk with your pet or spend time reading or watching your favourite movie but only once you have finished your task in hand.
