Nirmala Sitharaman, born on 18 August 1959, is the 28th Finance Minister of India. She previously served as the National Spokesperson for BJP in 2010 and also is an active member of the Rajya Sabha since 2014.

1. Nirmala Sitharaman was the second woman to be selected as Defense Minister of India in 2017 after Indira Gandhi and the first woman to work full-time in this post.
2. Nirmala Sitharaman was born to a poor family on 18 August 1959 in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. Shri Narayan Sitharaman is her father and Smt. Savitri Sitharaman is her mother. Nirmala’s father used to work in Railways and was born at Musiri in Tiruchirappalli.

3. Nirmala Sitharaman passed her school from Madras and Tiruchirappalli. She completed her BA in Economics from Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College in Tiruchirappalli. In 1984, she finished her Master’s from JNU. She also holds a degree in dissertation on Indo-European textile trade.
4. In 1986, Nirmala Sitharaman married a guy named Parakala Prabhakar whom she met two years before in JNU. After her marriage, both of them moved to London.
5. Nirmala’s primary job in London was as a sales assistant at Habitat’s home decor store.
