National Film Awards are the most prominent award in the Indian Film Industry. It was established in the year 1954.

The Government of India started the ceremony to honour films and people for the films across India. on a national scale, to encourage the furthering of Indian art and culture.

Since 1973, the Indian Directorate of Film Festivals administers the ceremony along with other major film events in India annually. We have a complete Winners Full List of 68th National Film Awards.

National Film Awards: Selection Process

The Directorate of Film Festivals invited online entries and the acceptable last date for entries was 12th March 2021.

Feature and Non-Feature Films certified by Central Board of Film Certification between 1 January 2020, and 31 December 2020, were eligible for the film award categories.

Books, critical studies, reviews, or articles on cinema published in Indian newspapers, magazines, and journals between 1 January 2020, and 31 December 2020, were eligible for the best writing on cinema section.

Entries of dubbed, revised, or copied versions of a film or translation, abridgments, edited or annotated works and reprints were ineligible for the awards.

For the Feature and Non-Feature Films sections, films in any Indian language shot on 16 mm, 35 mm, a wider film gauge, or a digital format, and released in cinemas, on video or digital formats for home viewing were eligible.

Films were required to be certified as a feature film, a featurette, or a Documentary/Newsreel/Non-Fiction by the Central Board of Film Certification.

National Film Awards: Jury

The list of juries for best friendly film state is Vipul Shah, Sreelekha Mukherjee, S Thangadurai, Dharam Gulati, GS Bhaskar, A Karthikraaja, Viji Thampi, Sanjeev Rattan, VN Aditya, Nishigandha and Thangadurai who have selected the final awardees.

Apart from this list, each zone had its list of juries for the selection process.

National Film Awards: Prize Money

Each category has a prize money. Best Film and Director has a cash prize of INR 2.5 lacs while various actor (male and female) has a prize money of INR 50k. Some category has only certificates.

These awards were to be held in May 2020, but due to the pandemic, it was shifted to March 2021.

  2. Best Book on Cinema: The Longest Kiss. It is based on 10 years of research and 400 letters. It was written by cinema icon Devika Rani.

Comments From 68th National Film Awards Winners

Soon after the news broke out that he had won the award for his brilliant score in Sudha Kongara’s ‘Soorarai Pottru’, Prakash tweeted a letter that read: “One day you will make it big … One day you will win … One day everything will happen the way you want … And after a long wait, finally the day arrives.

Akshay Kumar who plays the lead role in the Hindi remake tweeted: “Over the moon to see #SooraraiPottru win the top honours at the National Awards. Heartfelt congratulations to my brother @Suriya_offl, #AparrnaBalamurali, and my director #SudhaKongara. Humbled to be working in the Hindi adaptation of such an iconic film.”

For Nanjiamma, the news of the award comes tinged with sadness. “I am happy to win the award, but deeply sad that he (Sachy) is not with us to hear this news. It was he who asked me to sing. and I did,” she said.
