Work from Home shall be the new normal for all of us soon. We have been doing so since the break out of the pandemic. Working from home during a global pandemic adds an increased amount of pressure and strain beyond typical remote work environments, and leaders should take this into consideration and adjust their expectations of employees and of themselves accordingly.

1. Schedule is the Key

Our screen time has increased a lot since working from home. Since we are not moving out of the house, we are just following any schedule. Somewhere the boundaries between workplace and home have been blurred to a large extent.

With the pandemic, the added responsibilities have increased the challenge. With a heavy workload, you tend to go for long work hours. But these work hours can be difficult if you don’t follow any schedule.

Before you set your routine, give enough time for yourself to make a good start to work from home. Once you have decided on your schedule share it with all your stakeholders.

2. Get Dressed to Feel Good

May no one would see you throughout the day but it is difficult to have a productive mindset in your home clothes. Staying in your pyjamas can bring a feeling of stagnancy and will never give you a sense of accomplishment even when you have ticked all the work.

Wearing good clothes can also bring a demarcation in your work and home life. You need not bring out the best clothes for your office but at least good clothes or the clothes in which you have not slept at night. Hence before you start your work from home get dressed and set up the mood.

3. Communicate  

With Work from home and no colleagues around may feel a bit out of place. Maybe you start with some conversations with your team. You can set up a regular meeting with them.

Just ring in to know about their lives or some big project they are working on. This will help with water cooler conversation which generally happens in the office.

However, always keep in mind that you may have to reschedule the call on short notice during these stressful pandemic times. In such cases be considerate about yourself and your colleagues.

4. Walk

All the movement of the body has come to stand standstill with the work-from-home option. Everyone has a much more sedentary life than before. But don’t continue with this sedentary life. Keep walking in your neighbourhood or your apartment.

Just loosen up your muscles and get your blood flowing. You can also walk while you have a planned call with an office colleague.

Everyone has been working from home for a very long time now. Just as said earlier working in your pyjamas won’t give you a sense of achievement similarly working in your bed won’t give you the zeal to perform at your best. So, dedicate a place for yourself.

Select a corner of the house where you can set up your office and where you won’t be disturbed during office timings. This would give clear boundaries between work and family life.
