Being from a business family, he has an interest in business right from the beginning. He started working in his father’s office in his college days. Though he was not enjoying the work he worked hard to flourish the business.
During that time, he got a contract from Europe for cotton export. He worked hard for the contract but incurred losses. He felt it was because of the policies of India.
With his father’s consent, he went to Europe. He tried to establish a business in Europe. But to his dismay, his business failed in Europe too.
He then went to the United States to start a business. But he failed even there. But all the failures never broke his courage or the urge to establish in business.

After his US business, he decided to join Business School. After his degree, he started working as a Product Manager at MicroStrategy.
It was a business intelligence software industry based in Washington DC. During this period, he achieved a new height.
He even earned a lot of money through the stock market. But soon he also lost the money due to the internet crisis. But the zeal remained.
With that zeal, he returned to India. After returning to India, he used up the savings he had made in the US to open a company named Satyanet Solution. The company was started when the craze of the internet was just picking up in India.
He developed websites for various companies and brands. He earned a lot of money from this business. His cousins Ananda and Pooja helped him in this venture. The company took off and started earning a good deal of money.

Anupam was soaring high in his new venture Satyanet Solutions. That was the time when his family and their Pandit Ji started showing girls’ profiles to him. In this situation, it clicked to him that the profile should be put on the internet so that she could find the match.
That is when Shaadi.com was incepted. He knew that marriage was a big market in India. And that is when he thought of doing business in the marriage field.
As soon as this idea clicked, he instructed his team to build and develop a new website with the concept of wedding matches. The website was initially known as Sagaai.com. The entire team including Anupam Mittal slogged for the website sangai.com.
At its own pace, the website picked up popularity. People started registration on the website. The quantum of work had started increasing for the website. With the progress, INR 30 lakhs were deposited with him.
With the quick popularity and progress of the website, he wanted to have a domain name that would be remembered by everyone. He started brainstorming on the name.
And they landed up for Shaadi.com as the website name. Though the name was unique, someone had already bought the domain.
The person demanded INR 25 lakhs against the domain name. His earnings were INR 30 lakhs and the person demanded INR 25 lakhs for the domain name.
But Anupam Mittal was sure about it and took the risk. And that is when the name was changed from Sagaai.com to Shaadi.com.
