In India, Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Teachers Day is celebrated on the 5th of September. The celebration is to mark the birthday of former President Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. Apart from being a President, he was a scholar, philosopher, and Bharat Ratna recipient.
This day is celebrated by giving greeting cards and flowers to the Teachers. At some schools, the high-class work as teachers for one day and teach for each division of the class. Globally Teacher’s Day is celebrated on 5th October. But in India, it is celebrated on 5th September starting from 1962.
In a speech given by Mr Narendra Modi, he said that teaching is not a profession, a way of life”. Teaching is not a profession but “Jeevan Dharm” (a way of life).

He said that teachers can understand changes happening across the world so that they can prepare the new generation to face them. In fact, it is a divine responsibility to guide and enlighten.
He also said that India should regain the status of ‘Vishwaguru’ (leader in education) by giving high respect to teachers. He asked the teachers to encourage students to think critically about issues concerning the nation.
“Teacher’s determination and sincerity will shape the destiny of the nation as they are laying the foundation and the building blocks of the society”.

Reason for Celebrating Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Teachers Day
Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was born on 5th September 1888. He was the first Vice President and second President of India after independence. He was an educationist. He was a supported edification.
He was an academician, but the best was he was a great teacher. It is said that the future of any country lies in the hands of children. To mold the children lies in the hands of teachers. Hence, teachers play an important role in a child’s life to build his future.

On this day, various meritorious teachers of India are given awards by the government of India. The awards are given as gratitude to the teachers in primary, secondary, and college teachers.

About Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan
Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was born in Telugu, speaking Niyogi Brahmin family. He was born in Tiruttani of Chittoor District. He was born to Sarvepalli Veeraswami, a subordinate revenue officer in service of a local zamindar or landlord, and Sarvepalli Sita.
Radhakrishnan was married to Sivakamu, as decided by family tradition. She was a distant cousin of his. He was married at the tender age of 14. They had five daughters.

He completed his primary education at K V High School in Thiruttani. Later, in 1896 moved to Tirupati and studied at Hermannsburg Evangelical Lutheran Mission School and Walajapet in Government High Secondary School.
He later joined the College of Madras for First of Arts. He also completed his Masters from the same college. He was awarded a scholarship throughout his education. Despite finances, he studied and achieved the highest civilian awards in India.

Shikshak Parv
The Ministry of Education has organized Shikshak Parv from 5th September 2021 to 17th September 2021. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the event on 7th September 2021.
A dedicated website has been built by the National Informatics Centre, along with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. The website will go live on 7th September 2021 at 11 am.
The website will go live in the presence of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The program shall have various seminars and presentations. The programs shall be streamed online on social media platforms.
The social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and YouTubers shall stream the program. On this day, 44 teachers of India shall be awarded the National Teachers’ Award 2021.
