Will WhatsApp Be Able to Read My Messages?

However, the new policy said that WhatsApp and Facebook can use your data. Still, they have assured that the private chats shall be end-to-end encrypted. Company CEO Will Cathcart has tweeted that WhatsApp calls and chats shall be end-to-end encrypted.

This means chats will not be visible to anyone but the user. “We’re in a competition for privacy with others, and that’s very good for the world. People should have choices in how they communicate and feel confident that no one else can see their chats.

Will I Have to Give Access to My Location Data?

Yes. You would have to give access to location data if you need to use an additional feature of WhatsApp. WhatsApp has said that you will have to provide access to certain data to use add-on services such as location sharing.

Even if you decide to turn off the location services, WhatsApp can still use the IP addresses or phone area codes to estimate their general location. This leaves you with a difficult choice to make.

Will WhatsApp Share My Location Data with Facebook?

No. WhatsApp will not be sharing your location data with Facebook. However, the approximate location on the app, can it find out by using a combination of your phone area code and your IP address.

This data can be shared with Facebook and its other companies. However, this would not be the exact location.

Will WhatsApp Have Access to Videos and Images I Share on The Platform?

As already stated by WhatsApp, any media you share on the platform be it pictures, videos, or audio files the data will remain end-to-end encrypted and will be accessed by WhatsApp.

WhatsApp stores the data temporarily on its servers to ensure faster delivery next time it is forwarded.

” When a user forwards media within a message, we store that media temporarily in encrypted form on our servers to aid in more efficient delivery of additional forwards,” says the new policy.

Will WhatsApp Now Show Ads?

No. As of today, WhatsApp and Facebook do not plan to show any ads. The new policies indicated that WhatsApp will remain to be an ad-free platform as of now. However, this would leave room for introduction sometime in the future.

The policy states that if the platform plans to introduce ads in the future. An update will be made to its terms and services.

The new policy says “We still do not allow third-party banner ads on our Services. We have no intention to introduce them, but if we ever do, we will update this Privacy Policy.”

What Data Will WhatsApp Take from Me?

As per the new policy updates, WhatsApp can collect your activity–related data. This data can include how you use WhatsApp, what are your service settings, and how you interact with other users.

How much time do you spend on the app and even the duration in which you use WhatsApp?

This data may also include information about users registered to WhatsApp’s services. The features you use such as messaging, calling, Status, groups including group name, group picture, group description, payments, or business features.

The notable point is WhatsApp has never stated that it will be collecting your messages, videos, or audio files exchanged on the platform.

Are WhatsApp Conversations Private?

We would say it is no breach of privacy. The platform is seeking access to certain data, and if you are not comfortable sharing that; you are free to move to other apps. Any platform is free to ask that.

Even the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has sought a ban on the app. It has written to IT minister Ravi Shankar Prasad demanding that the government restrict WhatsApp from implementing this new privacy policy.
