Most of the Dhaba serves both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food. Dal makhani is the most popular dish in Dhabas. Tandoor is another speciality of the Dhabas, which is issued for making roti and naan.

Baba Ka Dhaba Kanta Prasad and Badami Devi
Baba ka Dhaba is a small eatery joint/restaurant run by Kanta Prasad and his wife, Badami Devi. Badami Devi was three years old when she married Kanta Prasad, who was five years old.
After the Gauna Ceremony which is done once the bride attends puberty, the couple left for Delhi like millions of people in India from the small town. Both of them were always sure that they would do something to make their ends meet.
In the 1960s, when they shifted to Azamgahar, they lived across the Yamuna in Shahdara. Later they shifted to Jagdamba Camp slum in Malviya Nagar.

Initially, Kanta Prasad was a fruit vendor. Later on, he got a license for an eatery. So they started this Dhaba almost thirty years back in the 1990s. Since then both husband and wife have been running the Baba Ka Dhaba joint/restaurant to make ends meet.
Daily Badami Devi would wake up at 3:00 am to complete house chores. By 6:00 am both husband and wife would leave for the Dhaba by auto rickshaw. The auto would take almost INR 60 one way to reach.
The couple has two sons. Elder sons worked as Ward Boy while younger sons worked as Swiggy delivery boy. The elder son is married and has two children.

Baba ka Dhaba joint/restaurant is located in Malviya Nagar, opposite Hanuman Mandir. It is a small blue-coloured food stall where the husband and wife work for their livelihood.
You can taste delicious food like aloo mutter, mutter paneer, roti, paratha jeera rice, etc at a very reasonable rate from INR 10 to INR 50.

How Dhaba Went Viral
With nationwide lockdown and no social security, many small businessmen and daily wage workers were badly struck. People had stopped coming to the small joints on account of no jobs and massive migration from big cities back to rural towns.
But things changed for Mr Prasad (owner of Baba Ka Dhaba joint/joint/restaurant) when Swad Official, a YouTube channel owned by Gaurav Wasan, posted a video about teary-eyed Mr Kanta Prasad and Badami Devi.
The channel talks about lesser-known awesome and must-visit food joints in the city. With the channel’s 136th about “Baba ka Dhaba”, Mr. Wasan appealed to his followers to support the Dhaba in any way they can.

The post went viral for the heart-breaking story about Kanta Prasad and his wife who have been badly stuck due to nationwide lockdown like many others.
Before lockdown, things were fine and they could manage to save 4000 – 5000 per month. But since the announcement of the lockdown, people stopped coming to the eatery.
The viral video has given hope to many. One of them is a sweeper who dreams to have a viral video and get help to improve his condition.

At Baba Ka Dhaba With The Fame Came Aid
The video went viral overnight and struck a chord of empathy so loud that everyone around the nation extended their hand to support. The very next day, they had four customers lined up for food.
Many commoners have also helped by giving rations or some household articles. A person from Katra, Jammu, came to Delhi to help.
The moment this Dhaba became famous, many big brands lined up to put a poster on Dhaba. Zomato has extended a helping hand by listing the Dhaba on their app. Not only did Local MLAs give away help but also Sonam Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra extended their hand of help.

Reaction of Baba Ka Dhaba owner Kanta Prasad
Kanta Prasad is very happy that the technology has helped them to get fame and rescue their Dhaba. On the other hand, he is also unhappy with technology as he could not educate his sons beyond the 6th standard.
He said we could both work and fill their stomach or sit and make them study. We could not do both, so had to remove them from school. “There are hundreds of evil traits in mobile phones, but one good trait.
It is good that it has aided people like us, but for people who are always glued to their phones, it is evil,” he says.
He also hopes that many people who are like him get such help and move on in life.

Baba Ka Dhaba: Good Times Lasted For a Short While
Controversies enter as a family with fame. So happened with Mr. Kanta Prasad. The happiness and good times lasted only for a month. In November 2020, Mr Kanta Prasad filed a complaint against YouTube influencer Mr Gaurav Wasam, the very same guy whose video got the fame.
As per the complaint, Kanta Prasad said that Gaurav Wasan used his name and fame to get money from social media communities. He also said that Gaurav took the funds dishonestly.

Gaurav has countered the allegations by stating “People are trying to defame me by putting false allegations against me.
There have been rumours and reports that I received an amount of Rs 25 lakh in my account, which is not true because I have given all my bank statements and transferred all the money that I received to Baba.
And the allegations against me for taking Rs 25 lakh are also false. I don’t know who is putting all this information in his head and telling him that I received Rs 25 lakh.” He also said that people are trying to manipulate Kanta Prasad.

Baba Ka Dhaba Latest News
About a week back, Mr Kanta Prasad apologized to Mr Gaurav Wasan who accepted the apology, and the controversies seemed to be ended. But recently, on Thursday, Kanta Prasad committed suicide by consuming alcohol and sleeping pills.
He is admitted to Safdarjung Hospital where he is battling between his life and death.
As stated by his elder son, Kanta Prasad was battling depression as he received abusive calls from people asking him to apologize after the controversy. It is said that he even got threat calls. He had committed suicide due to depression about six years ago.
We hope Kanta Prasad recovers soon.
Fame and controversies go hand in hand. Fame is not easy to digest and can be detrimental if not handled with care.
