Neeraj Chopra is an Indian athlete who won a gold medal with his golden javelin throw for India during the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in men’s javelin throw. Neeraj Chopra was born on 24 December 1997 in Khandra village of Haryana.
He is currently 23 years old and was born to Satish Kumar and Saroj Devi. Neeraj Chopra comes from a poor family as his father is a farmer. In the past, Neeraj faced lots of financial crises, but none of them could affect his dedication to sports.
Neeraj passed his graduation at Dayanand Anglo-Vedic College in Chandigarh and currently, he is also completing his BA from Lovely Professional University. He is unmarried and has two sisters named Sangeeta and Sarita. Neeraj Chopra is also in the Indian Army as a Junior Commissioned Officer.
He belongs to a joint family and in one interview; he mentioned how his uncle Bheem Singh encouraged him to join the Javelin Throw. He also mentioned the hardships faced because of the lack of amenities in his village for sports.

Neeraj Chopra`s Commencement in the Javelin Throw
Neeraj Chopra had acquired many medals in Javelin’s throw and recently he won a gold medal for India in Tokyo 2020 with his golden javelin throw for India during the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
In an interview, Neeraj discussed his journey so far and how he ended up in the Olympics. Neeraj Chopra is a well-known Indian athlete, but he was quite a chubby child in the past.
He used to weigh 80 kilograms when he was 11 years old and this bothered his parents very much. His parents forced him to start working out and running across the Panipat stadium. His pocket money was 30, and he didn’t have any money left for other expenses.

Neeraj used to travel by bus in the morning to reach Panipat stadium and in the evening he used to go with his uncle. He used to go to Panipat Stadium almost every day but didn’t enjoy running there.
He used to stand there for hours and watch other players playing javelin throw. He was very much encouraged by one of his senior Jaiveer.
One day, out of curiosity, Neeraj tried the javelin throw, and he had thrown it so far that everyone was astounded. This particular incident made him realize his potential and interest.
This made Neeraj confident about himself. Throughout his journey, the Neeraj family was very supportive especially his uncle Bheem Singh.

Neeraj Chopra`s Journey to Olympic gold
Neeraj Chopra won the first-ever gold medal on 7th August 2021 for India with his golden javelin throw during the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. He participated in the Men’s javelin throw and claimed the title by throwing it 87.58 m far.
An interesting fact is that his personal highest accomplishment is 88.07 m. Neeraj Chopra is a Haryana-based athlete and the main reason for him to join sports was his obesity.
Soon he realized his interest in Javelin’s throw and then he never looked back. Neeraj also Chopra won the Junior World Championship (Javelin throw) in 2018.
His Under 20 world record of 86.48 m is still unbeatable. He also won gold at the Asian Athletic Championships in 2017, the Commonwealth Games in 2018, the South Asian Games in 2016, and the Asian Games.

Neeraj Chopra made India proud by becoming the first-ever Indian athlete to win gold in the ‘ Track and field’ event. Abhinav Bindra was the first Indian solo athlete to win gold in the Olympics, and Neeraj Chopra came in the second position.
Neeraj Chopra started his training session in 2016 at the Mission Olympics Wing and the Army Sports Institute situated in Pune after joining the Indian army. The main motive of Mission Olympics Wing is to train Indian athletes and improve their skills in eleven unique disciplines.
They provide the best athletes in national and international competitions. The main reason for Subedar Neeraj Chopra’s win was the excellent guidance provided by the Mission Olympics Wing.

Neeraj Chopra`s Inspiration
Subedar Neeraj Chopra built history on 4th August 2021 by winning the gold medal for India in the men’s javelin throw. Now he is a motivation to millions of young kids who want to pursue their careers in sports.
However, Neeraj’s childhood was unusual. He used to weigh 85 kilograms when he was just an eleven-year-old kid. His parents and relatives forced him to lose weight and daily sent him to Panipat stadium for running. One day, while running around the stadium, he obtained an interest in the players playing Javelin’s throw.

He asked one of his senior Jaiveer of Binjhol to let him try it once. Everyone accepted and Neeraj had thrown it so far that all were amazed. Jaiveer was the first person to identify Neeraj’s talent.
They appreciated his skill and Neeraj felt very gratified by himself. Neeraj also won his first junior national gold in 2012 with a throw of 68.46m. He broke his national record.

Although things were not simple for Neeraj, as soon after this he unintentionally fractured his wrist and wasn’t permitted to exercise for more than 6 months. During this rest, he gained weight and after that worked thrice a day to drop weight.
Every year, Neeraj was determined to improve himself and bring a better version of himself. Through his journey from Khandra Village to the Tokyo Olympics 2020, he inspired millions of people.

Subedar Neeraj Chopra, who recently won the gold medal for India in the Javelin throw, has numerous other awards. Uwe Hohn is a German athlete and coach of Neeraj Chopra. He is the only athlete who has thrown a javelin at a distance of more than 100m.
He was very well guided by Neeraj and was very proud of his win in Tokyo 2020. In 2016, Neeraj won a gold medal in South Asian Games held in Guwahati. In the same year, he also won a medal in the World Junior Championships and Asian Junior Championships.
In 2017, Neeraj won a gold medal in the Asian Championships held in Bhubaneswar. He won gold in the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games held in 2018.
