Seven Wonders of Modern World are the list of notable structures or monuments which are from ancient times. The list is dynamic and updated on yearly basis. However as of 2023, no single definitive list of modern wonders is accepted.
The idea of campaign to select the new seven wonders was started in 2000 by Swiss Foundation.
Most travellers visit the seven wonders of the modern world. These wonders are not ordinary feat. Each wonder can be visited one at a time for ease of travelling and affordable.
Here is list of the expected list of modern wonders and some information about the wonders. These are also UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Here is the complete list of:

7 Wonders of The Modern World in 2023
1. Petra
Built Year: 5th Century BC
Country: Jordan
Built By: The Nabataen
Height & Weight: Not Applicable
About: Petra is a city situated in southern Jordan. This place has got rock cut architecture and water conduit system. The Nabataens have craved the structures in the red sandstone cliffs.
This city is also known as Rose City due to the colour of its rock. This place was rediscovered by Swiss Explorer Johann Ludwig Burckhardt in 1812.
Petra is famous for its iconic building know as Treasury. It is a monumental tomb of a king craved from sandstone cliff face. Other notable structures in Petra include the Monastery, the Roman Theatre, and the Royal Tombs.

Petra is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Jordan.
It was a major trading centre in the ancient world, and its location at the crossroads of important trade routes helped it to flourish economically.
The Nabateans also built an impressive water management system to collect and store water, which allowed them to thrive in the desert environment.

2. The Great Wall of China

About: The Great Wall of China is a series of fortifications made of stone, brick, tamped earth, wood, and other materials, generally built along an east-to-west line across the historical northern borders of China to protect the Chinese states and empires against the raids and invasions of the various nomadic groups of the Eurasian Steppe.
It is the longest wall in the world, stretching over 13,000 miles. Construction of the Great Wall began in the 7th century BC and continued through the Ming dynasty (1368–1644). It is now a popular tourist destination and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Conclusion: The Great Wall of China is famous for hiking at various portions. Visiting Simatai section of the wall at night is beautiful as it is lit up.
In Jiankou section is a steep and perilously section where camping can be a great experience. Less touristry sections can be good for picnic spots. The place has other attraction too.

3. Machu Picchu

About: Machu Picchu is a citadel located in the Eastern Cordillera of southern Peru, on a 2,430-metre (7,970 ft) mountain ridge. The citadel is in the Machupicchu District, Urubamba Province, Machupicchu Province, Cusco Region.
It is situated on a mountain ridge above the Urubamba Valley in Peru, which is 80 km (50 mi) northwest of Cusco and through which the Urubamba River flows. It is often referred to as “The Lost City of the Incas” and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Machu Picchu was built in the classical Inca style, with polished dry-stone walls. Its three primary structures are the Intihuatana, the Temple of the Sun, and the Room of the Three Windows.
These are in what is known by archaeologists as the Sacred District of Machu Picchu. It’s now a popular tourist destination, and only a limited number of visitors are allowed per day, due to conservation efforts.

4. Taj Mahal

About: The Taj Mahal is a mausoleum located in Agra, India. It was built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his third wife, Mumtaz Mahal, who died during the birth of their 14th child in 1631.
The Taj Mahal is widely recognized as “the jewel of Muslim art in India and one of the universally admired masterpieces of the world’s heritage”. It is made of white marble and is considered one of the finest examples of Mughal architecture, a blend of Indian, Persian, and Islamic styles.

The construction of the Taj Mahal began in 1632 and was completed in 1653. The tomb is the centrepiece of a 17-hectare (42-acre) complex, which includes a mosque and a guest house, and is set in formal gardens bounded on three sides by a crenelated wall.
The Taj Mahal is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and considered as one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

5. Christ the Redeemer

Built By: Designed by sculptor Paul Landowski and built by engineer Heitor da Silva Costa in collaboration with Albert Caquot. Sculptor Gheorghe Leonida created the face.
Height & Weight: 130 feet and weighing 635 tonnes.
About: Christ the Redeemer is an Art Deco statue of Jesus Christ in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The statue stands at 98 feet (30 meters) tall, and its arms stretch 92 feet (28 meters) wide. It is located at the peak of the 2,300-foot (700-meter) Corcovado Mountain in the Tijuca Forest National Park, overlooking the city.
The statue was designed by the French sculptor Paul Landowski and built by the Brazilian engineer Heitor da Silva Costa, with the collaboration of the French engineer Albert Caquot. The statue was unveiled in 1931, and since then it has become an iconic symbol of Rio de Janeiro and Brazil.
The statue is made of reinforced concrete and soapstone, and it is a symbol of Christianity across the world and one of the most famous landmarks in South America. It’s a tourist attraction and a popular pilgrimage site. It’s also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

6. Chichen Itza

About: Chichen Itza is a pre-Columbian archaeological site built by the Maya civilization located in the northern centre of the Yucatan Peninsula, present-day Mexico. The name “Chichen Itza” means “at the mouth of the well of the Itza” in the Mayan language.
The site contains many architectural styles, including pyramid temples, palaces, ceremonial platforms, and ball courts, most of which date back to the Terminal Classic period (900-1200 AD) of the Mayan civilization.

The most famous structure at Chichen Itza is the Temple of Kukulkan, also known as El Castillo, a step pyramid that is nearly 100 feet (30 meters) tall.
It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and it’s one of the most visited archaeological sites in Mexico and is also considered one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Chichen Itza was a major centre for politics, economy, and religion for the Maya civilization and it’s still revered for its architectural and engineering achievements.

7. Colosseum

About: The Colosseum, also known as the Flavian Amphitheatre, is an oval amphitheatre in the centre of the city of Rome, Italy. It is the largest amphitheatre ever built and one of the greatest works of Roman architecture and engineering.
The Colosseum is considered one of the greatest engineering marvels of the ancient world.
It was built of concrete and stone, and its walls stood 50 meters high and 157 meters wide, able to hold an estimated 50,000 to 80,000 spectators. Construction of the Colosseum began in AD 72 under the emperor Vespasian and was completed in AD 80 under his successor and heir, Titus.
